Location: Facebook Live
Dates: Thursday 12th November
Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Join Interfaith Glasgow during Scottish Interfaith Week as we go live on Facebook for our special Interfaith Storytime series! We will be hosting authors from different faith backgrounds who have written wonderful, diverse children’s books. Our guests will read their books live and participate in Q&A – comment with your questions, they will be delighted to answer!
On the 12th of November, we will be hosting Hena Khan all the way from America, who will be reading her beautiful children’s book Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns: A Muslim Book of Colours.
Magnificently capturing the colourful world of Islam for the youngest readers, this breath-taking and informative picture book celebrates Islam’s beauty and traditions. From a red prayer rug to a blue hijab, everyday colours are given special meaning as young readers learn about clothing, food, and other important elements of Islamic culture, with a young Muslim girl as a guide. Sure to inspire questions and observations about world religions and cultures.
About the author
Like so many writers, Hena grew up with her nose in a book. Her mother believed children should be seen reading and not heard whining about boredom, and she regularly took her to the Rockville Public Library with grocery bags to fill with books. Hena is a Pakistani-American Muslim who was born and raised in Maryland, and enjoys sharing and writing about her culture and religion. She has written about a bunch of other topics, from spies to space travel, that take her out of her reality and on adventures.
Hena is obsessed with Spain, ceramic tiles and pottery, food, flamenco, and good coffee. When she is not cooking up a story, she’s often actually cooking food or baking treats for her family or friends. She also spent a good chunk of her life writing and editing for international organizations that work to improve the health of people around the world.
