This online session explores wellbeing through The Six Healing Sounds Qigong (Liu Zi Jue 六字诀), a traditional Chinese breathing and movement practice.

This year’s Scottish Interfaith Week theme is wellbeing, and this workshop offers a gentle opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the breath and body, and explore a traditional Chinese approach to mindful movement.

Liu Zi Jue combines gentle movements, slow breathing, focused attention and six vocal sounds, each traditionally associated with different organs and emotional qualities. The practice is often used to encourage relaxation, calm the mind and develop a deeper awareness of the body.

Depending on the group’s pace and the time available, the session will introduce a selection of movements and sounds from the practice.

No previous Qigong or Taiji experience is needed. The workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in wellbeing, gentle movement and traditional Chinese culture.

Please wear comfortable clothing and make sure you have enough space to move safely at home.

You will need:

  • Loose, comfortable clothing
  • Water and a light snack if needed
  • Space to move indoors or outdoors

It is best to avoid eating a heavy meal immediately before the workshop

Recommended for: Adults and children aged 10+. The workshop is not suitable for very young children due to the concentration required for the slow and gentle movements.
